My wife and I are both retired with a home in sunny North Carolina which we would like to swap for about 5 months in the period from June 1st, 2010 to November 30th, 2010 with a house in W.Sussex or Surrey, England.

The house is single story with 3 bedrooms one of which is used as a study. There is a lounge, dining room, laundry room, 2 full bathrooms with showers and a fully equipped kitchen/breakfast room.

There are satellite TV’s in the lounge and 2 of the bedrooms. Broadband (wireless) connection is available for use with a wireless laptop. Can be hard-wired if necessary.

The house is fully air-conditioned, with heating when required by a heat pump system which is backed up by an efficient gas log fire in the lounge.

Outside there is a large garden mostly laid to lawn which has an automatic irrigation system. The back garden is fully fenced and there is a large deck with a gas fired barbeque.

There is a large garage with remote door openers and entrance directly into the house. Car exchange can be arranged. Our car is a Honda minivan which is spacious and very handy for any trips.

We are situated in a rural area with easy access by car to local small towns. One of these is the village of Pinehurst which is quintessentially American, planned by Frederick Olmsted who designed Central Park New York. It is built around the famous Pinehurst Golf Resort home of many international golf tournaments. Some of the small towns have been there from 18th century and have interesting historic areas.

There are 40 excellent golf courses within a 15 mile radius and most of these are accessible to green fee payers and it is possible to buy a senior citizens pass which provides discounts on the green fees.

This is also “horse country” with many horse farms, polo fields and harness tracks. Locally there is an international 3 day event course designed by Capt. Mark Phillips.

For those who like walking there are many large parks and trails through the long leaf pine forests.

Anyone wishing to take trips of a day or longer visits to the following places of beauty and interest should be considered:-

• Raleigh - Capital of NC with fine museums, galleries, theaters, shopping, restaurants and the southern charm of the “downtown” area. • Chapel Hill - an attractive historic college town with “American Main Street”. • The Atlantic coastal area with the lively resort of Myrtle Beach and the many quiet beach areas. A week’s timeshare is being offered as part of the swap. • There is the Outerbanks a group of small islands which was once the haunt of Blackbeard the pirate. There is a very good car ferry service to these islands and they are certainly worth a visit. • To the north lies the State of Virginia the home of some of the earliest presidents with many historic homes and estates to visit. Williamsburg is like a living museum of colonial America and should not be missed. • To the west are the beautiful mountains of North Carolina with the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway and the picturesque towns like Blowing Rock and Boone. • South West is the Great Smokey Mountains of Tennessee steeped in Native American pioneer history.
