dining room
which opens onto an equally large and
accommodating verandah, complete
with barbecue, tables and chairs. An
easy to use and well equipped internal
kitchen is also situated at one end of
this room. Two of our three bedrooms
are also situated on this level, as is
our
well appointed bathroom and separate
toilet. The office is also on this level
and includes wireless internet
connection. From the ground level of
our home, an internal wooden
staircase leads to our main bedroom,
which also has its own, separate, toilet
and hand basin. The views from the
verandah leading out from this main
bedroom will amaze you with wide
vistas of a coastal creek, a coastal
national park, the Pacific Ocean and
the hills and mountains of the Great
Dividing Range which rise up to the
famous Dorrigo National Park, which
is
a World Heritage Park. The lower level
of our house includes the laundry
which features a Miele automatic
washing machine, a second bathroom
with shower and a toilet and a lock-
up
garage. On this ground level, we also
enjoy a pleasant and private back-
yard garden.The Neighborhood
During 2009, Sawtell was twice
selected as the "most desirable place
on the coast of New South Wales".
Sawtell, the town, features
restaurants,
coffee shops, a hotel, a cinema,
boutique shops, a large club and a
very popular golf club, as well as a
truly stunning beach and adjacent
coastal area. You will love to swim in
the surf, or in the two coastal
estuaries, all of which are a 3-5
minute drive from our home. In
addition, the "Solitary Islands" Oceanic
National Park provides international-
class diving. This famous, coastal
National Park is a subtropical park in
which both tropical and temperate
fish
and many other sea creatures can be
seen by divers. You will also love the
"Dorrigo National Park" which is a
World Heritage Area, and features an
amazing "Skywalk", as well as miles of
well made walking tracks through
pristine, sub-tropical, virgin rain
forest. Because of Sawtell's location
between the Pacific Ocean and the
Great Dividing Range, the air in our
region must be classed among the
purest on the planet, while the water
temperature is usually between 20-23
degrees Celsius in the summer and
autumn months. The nearest larger
town is Coffs Harbour which is eight
kilometres north. Coffs Harbour is on
the main north-south rail line in New
South Wales, and also features a large,
regional airport. Because if its size,
Coffs Harbour also includes a Base
Hospital and Regional University as
well as a comprehensive range of
shopping, tourist and medical
facilities
as well as a truly outstanding Bridge
Club. Once you have lived in Sawtell,
you will never want to go home again.
The People
As retirees, our family is comprised of
two active adults. Tad is a retired
engineer and Pam's last job before
retirement was at a regional
university. We own a beloved red
cattle dog, but she will be cared for by
others while we are away from home.
We try to grow some of our own
vegetables, but, as this is a labour
intensive activity, we will probably let
our vegie beds have a rest while we
are away. During 2007, we
exchanged,
for two months, our house for a house
in Copenhagen, and we found this
exchange an entirely happy and
mutually satisfactory experience. We
are now very keen to secure a house
exchange within the British Isles, and
hope to arrange this exchange for a
mutually suitable period in 2010 or
2011.
